5 October – Santiago de Chile – as part of the 13th Bienal de Artes Mediales
7 October – São Paulo – within the framework of the 20th Festival de Arte Contemporânea Sesc_Videobrasil
10 October – Buenos Aires – in connection with the 11th FIBA (Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires)
12 October – Bogotá – in Mapa Teatro
COINCIDENCIA, the new cultural exchange programme between Switzerland and South America under the auspices of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, was inaugurated between 5 and 12 October 2017 in the four cities constituting the basis of its operations on the South American continent: Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and São Paulo.
Under the direction of the local COINCIDENCIA team and Swiss diplomatic representatives, the launch events were held in partnership with local cultural institutions. The festivities were organised within the framework of festivals and other multi-disciplinary activities. From dance to the digital arts, the programme demonstrated its willingness to take artistic forms into account in all their diversity.
Each of the opening events was accompanied by a project of a contemporary Swiss artist. To name just two: in Chile and Brazil, Mats Staub presented his new project «Diez momentos en mi vida»; in Brazil and Colombia, the artist Ntando Cele presented her performance «Black Milk».
