«To-Gather»

Online Forum «Expanded Translation: Activism and Co-Creative Practices in Literature»

To think of translation as a creative, collective, and political act, the online forum «Expanded Translation: Activism and Co-Creative Practices in Literature» brings together groups from Latin America, Switzerland, and Germany in dialogue with each other and the public from September 26th to 28th, 2022.

The encounters are organised by Looren Latin America – Translation House Looren’s Latin American programme – in the run-up to the Buenos Aires International Literature Festival (Filba).

Different collectives will present their methodologies, outlooks and projects, and exchange ideas on activist practices and the transformative potential of collaborative creation processes. They will address such aspects as writing and translation practices put to use in intervening in cultural, political, and social fields, the concept of authorship, (self-)publishing, cultural appropriation and literature’s intersections with other disciplinary fields.

The following collectives are participating: Frank Ocean [CL], Pecora Loca [BR], Sycorax [BR], Medusa [AR], Orden de Traslado [AR], the Ruge el Bosque Project [AR/MX], the intercultural creative network Mingas de la Imagen [CO/PA/EC/US/UY/MX/IT], Snichimal Vayuchil [MX], Literatur für das, was passiert [CH/DE], AJAR collectif littéraire [CH], and Villa of One’s Own [DE].

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required. The forum offers simultaneous translation on Zoom (German, English, Portuguese, Spanish) and will be shared on the Translation House Looren YouTube channel in Spanish. Further events will take place in conjunction with Filba, the Escuela de Literatura Creativa at the Universidad Diego Portales and Suizspacio/Swiss Embassy in Santiago de Chile.

The forum is the first part in a series of projects within «Expanded Translation: A Platform for Reflection, Co-Creation and Activism Between Switzerland, Latin America and Mozambique», selected in the framework of the To-Gather call for international collaborations, carried out by Pro Helvetia.
