Lea Meier in residence at Residência Artística FAAP
Brazil — Residencies
Location
Residência Artística FAAP
São Paulo, Brazil
Dates: February to June 2018
Lea Meier is a visual artist and works with issues of gender, body, dirt and desire. She holds a Bachelor’s degree (2012) in Visual Arts from the University of Bern (Switzerland) and a Master’s (2015) in Contemporary Artistic Practices from the University of Geneva (Switzerland). She has been developing her performance work over the last 5 years, in which she uses sexual energy as a creative motor to create spaces and atmospheres conducive to the speech and empowerment of women’s bodies.
During this residence the artist is investigating the notion of desire, sexual or otherwise, as a tool for transforming and affirming a space of existence in order to develop a written, textile and bodily language, that will become the starting point for a performance. Her work is based on the re-appropriation of the symbolism of female internal bodies. Lea seeks to invest in various forms of language (intimate, domestic, public, political) in order to work on a concept of feminine writing in the void. To articulate her project in São Paulo, she has established contact with feminist groups, artistic collectives and FAAP students.
