Yann Marussich

Date
November 2018 – May 2019

From November 2018 to May 2019, the performance artist Yann Marussich was on a residency titled «El Ciclo del Cemento» (The Cement Cycle), at EAC – Espacio de Arte Contemporanea in Montevideo, Uruguay, in association with Par Residencias and Instituto Nacional de Artes Escénicas: INAE. The artist is a unique character of the contemporary performance scene who has been, since 1989, presenting performances and choreographies all over Europe and the world.

During the creative process, Marussich worked together with eight women artists from the region: Luna Anais, María Heller, Paula Giuria, Ihasa Tinoco, Inés Rocca, Nastassja Roca, Paola Pilatti and Leticia Sarante. The question «How did the cement colonize us and how do we convert it in our default policy?» guided the research, which resulted in the series of performances «Laboratorio CEMENTO», shared with the public on 5 and 6 April 2019 at EAC.

On March 28, 2019, Marussich presented, also at EAC, his performance «Bain Brisé» (Broken Bath), in which his body emerges from a bathtub full of crushed glasses. As the last part of the residency period, the artist was part of the «FIDCU – Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea», with the world premiere of the performance «Hormigón IV: El Cubo» (Concrete IV: The Cube) and a series of video performances entitled «El Hombre de Cemento» (The Cement Man).
