Motivated by the investigation of utopian communities and non-globalized social organizations, Coletivo Utópico has, since 2018, worked to provide cultural exchanges between swiss and Latin Americans artists. Articulating activities related to education, artistic projects and collaborative practices, the collective aims to create new perspectives around the territories that receive it.
In 2019, questions like “what do I learn from this city” and “what do I learn from others” guided the micro-community composed of Swiss, Brazilian and Argentine artists in the context of FIAC 2019, where they had their first encounter and, together, collected, activated and thought of ways of learning and transmitting knowledge from the academic production to the living culture of Salvador, Bahia (Brazil).
The second encounter of the group of artists took place between the months of November and December, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where they were able to interact with people and organizations and delve into alternate life and community organization practices.
Integrated by artists Paula Baró (Argentina), Marina Quesada (Argentina), Rita Aquino (Brazil), Felipe de Assis (Brazil), Igor Cardellini (Switzerland), Tomas Gonzales (Switzerland) and Rébecca Balestra (Switzerland), the work is the result of the co-production of the Pro Helvetia program COINCIDENCIA; Plataforma Lodo (Argentina), responsible for the development of contemporary art performances; FIAC – Bahia International Performing Arts Festival (Brazil); 7oito Produções (Brazil), a production company specialized in theater and dance; and K7 Productions (Switzerland).
The actions promoted by Coletivo Utópico resulted in performance works performed at the Goethe Institut Salvador (Brazil), on October 23, and at the Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo (Argentina), on December 4.
