About Johannes Willi
Johannes Willi is a graduate of the ZHdK, the FHNW in Basel and the KUVA in Helsinki. He co-founded the Basel Book Fair “I Never Read” and is part of the artists’ collective Juice & Rispetta. From 2011 to 2013 he managed the Hinterhof Offspace area in Basel. Winner of the Prix Manor, his work has also been the subject of personal exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Gegenwart Basel and the Kunstmuseum in Lucerne. Before this experience in Escuela FLORA, Johannes Willi was invited in 2016 to a residency at the Atelier Mondial in Beijing.
FLORA Ars+natura is a contemporary art space based in Bogotá dedicated to the link between art and nature and which, through its Escuela FLORA residency programme, focuses on production, exchange and interculturality. For the second year in a row, Escuela FLORA is welcoming twenty artists from thirteen different countries, including the Basel artist Johannes Willi. During the ten months spent in Bogotá, the artist, whose tutor was the artist Sylvia Suarez, took part in the numerous activities offered by FLORA: reading seminars, visits to workshops and discussion groups between representatives of indigenous communities.
On the occasion of the launch of the COINCIDENCIA programme, on 12 October 2017 at the Mapa Teatro in Bogotá, Johannes Willi presented his performance «I Like the Universe, and the Anthropocene likes me».
