One of the main interests of circus artist Jessica Arpin [CH/BR], from Compagnie Tita8lou [CH], is to explore the use of new and different spoken languages to create improbable encounters with various audiences.
In her show «Kalabazi», which she presents during a tour in Brazil and Argentina, from November 2022 to January 2023, Jessica uses humour, poetry, and her speciality, acrobatic bicycle, to interact with the public (always speaking in the language of the venue).
She interprets a young woman who has an hour to spare before leaving and decides to use this time to get married – but not with anyone. So, she organises a love contest to find out who, among the audience, could become the ideal spouse, and encourages the spectator with her biking and strange upside-down speech.
Besides the show, Jessica teaches an acrobatic bicycle workshop in São Paulo and in Ribeirão Preto [SP].
ABOUT
Jessica Arpin was born in Brazil, grew up in Switzerland, lived in Pennabilli, Italy and is based between Geneva and Catalunya – when she is not performing somewhere on the planet. She studied circus at the Théâtre-Cirqule in Geneva and at the National School in Montreal, where she specialised in acrobatic bicycling. Since 2002, Jessica has worked for different circus and comedy companies such as Cia Nau de Ícaros (São Paulo), Duo Roccoco with Luca Regina (Italy), Artcirq (Canada), and in Switzerland with the Théâtres Parfumerie, du Loup, Grütli and Am Stram Gram. With four female artists, she toured the circus-clown quintette show «Garbuix» and the new show «Dioptries» with the Company Toti Toronell in Spain. She is also part of Tom Greder’s Swiss live cinema show «Panorama Kino Theatre». In addition, Jessica has been touring her solo street shows «Kalabazi» since 2008 and «Miss Margherita» since 2020 and has presented them over 900 times in 28 countries.
