Mabe Bethônico (Belo Horizonte) «Histórias Minerais Extraordinárias» at 20° Festival de Arte Contemporânea Sesc_Videobrasil (São Paulo)
At the boundary between geography, ufology and fiction, «Histórias Mineiras Extraordinárias» is inspired by the work of three personalities: Aubert de la Rüe, Billy Meier and Pierre Versins.
Conceived as an exhibition activated by a narrative performance, «Histórias Mineiras Extraordinárias» is the result of research conducted in several Swiss institutions, such as the Musée d’ethnographie de Genève, the FIGU archive – Billy Meier, the Maison d’Ailleurs d’Yverdon-Les-Bains and the EisenBibliothek in Schlatt.
A native of Belo Horizonte, Mabe Bethônico is interested in subjects such as geography, geology, history and ethnography and bases her work on archives and collections, exploring the limits of documentation and fiction. She has been selected notably for the 27th and 28th editions of the Biennale de São Paulo and her work has been the subject of exhibitions at the Centre de la photographie in Geneva (2010) and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
