«NUIT» – Compagnie 7273 tour in Colombia
Colombia, Switzerland — Events
More information
In «NUIT» (Night), Compagnie 7273 [CH] leverages the symbolism of mathematics and mysticism to create a ritualistic choreography.
On stage, seven female dancers communicate around a common choreographic score, a dance that seems to have been impregnated in their bodies since the beginning of their lives, as if they had met to share a ritual that belongs to them. To the sound of a percussive material created by Egyptian composer Maurice Louca, the dancers represent an organic society, making intimate movements that complement each other.
All this is impregnated with the circle’s symbolism, which pushes individuals to confront the phenomenon of the past, present and future.
The show was performed by 7273 during a tour in Colombia, in November 2021, that included the cities of Bogotá, Medellín, Popayán and Cali (in the frame of the International Dance Biennial).
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Since the creation of Compagnie 7273, in 2003, choreographers Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon have developed a dance style that invites the body to continuously and endlessly unravel. Their research is inspired by the Arabic music system of Maqâm (that describes a set of musical notes and the relationship between them). It allows the musician to play in-between the notes and gives him the opportunity to express himself. Named Multi styles FuittFuitt by the choreographers themselves, the transfer of this technique into the body enables the movements to weave into each other in a wavy, spiralled and hypnotic dance.
