«Overture (Mantras for a club)» establishes a new series of listening situations where performance, sound and voice embrace a constant state of trial and error amidst the theatricality of domestic and emotional spaces. Conceived during the one month period between PAM Residency (Los Angeles, USA) and the music laboratory Splendor Amsterdam, the work was supported by Pro Helvetia and was presented at Galpão Bela Maré, on March 6th and 7th, 2020, and at Carpintaria da Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, on January 28th, 2020, both in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Exploring states of exposure in intimate environments, the performative practice used physical and phonetic repetition to investigate the semantic test field of three states: flatness, artificiality and affect. Created by PRICE, a fictional character developed by Matheus Ringgenberg (Brazil, 1986) in a series of hybrid and performative musical works, and in partnership with Thibault Lac and Cecile Believe, «Overture (Mantras for a club)» creates a fissures in an environment of intimacy in order to start to an imaginary journey, creating paths for reflections on collectivity, interiority and subjectivity.

For the performances in Rio de Janeiro, Águi Berenice, Leonardo Bento, Filipe Nanttel, Idra, Davi Pontes, Wallace Ferreira, and Irmãs Brasil were invited. The project also featured the participation of pianist Sebastian Hirsig.
