«On Eating and Being Eaten» was a laboratory of Swiss-based and Brazilian artists divided in two phases, in April and May 2019, as part, respectively, of the festivals Zurich moves! (Switzerland) and Atos de Fala (Brazil). The theme of the lab was based on the Anthropophagic Brazilian art modernist tradition, aiming to approach it with a critic point of view concerning cultural cannibalism and its abusive appropriation risks.
In the frame of the project, laboratories for the local performance and dance scene in Zurich and Rio de Janeiro were conducted by Simone Aughterlony, Marcela Levi and Lucia Russo. Simone Aughterlony is an independent artist based and supported in Zurich and Berlin, working predominantly in dance and performance contexts. Marcela Levi is a performer and choreographer from Rio de Janeiro. In 2010, between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, she founded with the Argentinean choreographer Lucia Russo, the performing arts company «Improvável Produções».
Besides them, the curators of the festivals Felipe Ribeiro and Marc Streit, together with ten other artists based in Brazil, Switzerland and Germany, coming from different backgrounds, were invited for the labs to share their perspectives and creation processes: Ivan Monteiro, Jen Rosenblit, Annina Machaz, Liz Rosenfeld, Rodrigo Garcia Alves, Carolina Bianchi, Wellington Gadelha, Andrea Pires, Victor Oliveira and Iná Uó.
This project was supported by COINCIDENCIA, Swissnex Brazil and Goethe Institut Rio de Janeiro.
