Rita Mourão on a research trip to Switzerland
Switzerland, Brazil — Research Trips
Locations
Basel, Bern, Zurich and São Paulo
Dates: 13-23 June 2018
Rita Mourão, an independent curator and artists’ book researcher from São Paulo, spent time in Switzerland for a research trip, looking for common points between artists’ books developed in Brazil in the late 1960s by Julio Plaza and Neide de Sá and those of Swiss artist Dieter Roth. During her stay in Basel, Bern and Zurich, she visited important institutions, archives and libraries with Dieter Roth’s works and books in their collections.
The research project was also presented at the «I never Read» Art Book fair in Basel. During the fair, the curator presented some books by Julio Plaza and Neide de Sá, along with her Desapê collection, made up of books of Brazilian concrete poetry and publications and editions from the Brazilian independent art scene of the 1970s and ‘80s. The research was presented on the Radio Programme organised by «I never Read».
After returning to Brazil, Rita presented her research during an open conversation, sharing her investigation and experience in Switzerland. The event took place at Casa Plana, an independent publication bookstore and centre for publishing courses and studies located in São Paulo.
