Simetría

Simetría is a collaboration between Arts at CERN, ALMA, ESOand the Chilean Corporation of Video and Electronic Arts, made possible by support from the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia through its exchange programme COINCIDENCIA, and the ministry for Culture, the Arts and Heritage, of Chile through its New Media Area.

A selection committee has chosen Alan Bogana, together with the Chilean artist Nicole L’Huillier, to take part in Simetría, a new shared residency programme that will enable two artists in collaboration, to explore the relationship between astronomy and particle physics, at the CERN in Switzerland, the European particle physics laboratory, and in Chile, the VLT (Very large Telescope) observatory and ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimetre Array) at the European Southern Observatory (ESO/NAOJ/NRAO).

Swiss born, Alan Bogana is a multidisciplinary artist. His research focuses on the real and speculative behaviour of light and its interaction with matter, and the notion of what he calls digital organics. Through his work he explores how computers and technology allow us to visualise a broad mimesis of nature.

Nicole L’Huillier is a Chilean interdisciplinary artist from Santiago, Chile. Currently living in Boston she is a student and researcher at MIT Media Lab. She explores the intersection between art, music, architecture, science and technology in order to raise questions about possible futures redefining how we perceive our environment and most importantly: trigger a connection and empathy between humans and non-humans.
